General Liability Insurance

The foundation of business protection. If you operate a business in Florida, this is the policy you start with.

What It Covers

  • Bodily injury — A customer slips in your store, a visitor trips at your job site, a delivery person is injured on your property.
  • Property damage — Your employee accidentally damages a client's property while on a job. Your equipment causes damage to a rented space.
  • Personal & advertising injury — Claims of libel, slander, copyright infringement in your advertising, or wrongful eviction.
  • Medical payments — Covers minor medical expenses for people injured at your location, regardless of fault.
  • Legal defense — Attorney fees, court costs, and settlements if you're sued — even if the claim is groundless.

Who Needs It

Every business that interacts with the public, works on client properties, or has physical premises. In Florida, many commercial leases, contracts, and licenses require proof of general liability before you can operate.

What It Does Not Cover

Employee injuries (that's workers' comp), professional mistakes (that's professional liability), auto accidents (that's commercial auto), or damage to your own property (that's commercial property insurance).

Workers' Compensation Insurance

Florida law requires most businesses with four or more employees to carry workers' comp. Construction businesses need it with just one employee.

What It Covers

  • Medical expenses — Doctor visits, hospital stays, surgeries, prescriptions, and physical therapy for work-related injuries or illnesses.
  • Lost wages — Partial wage replacement when an employee can't work due to a work-related injury. In Florida, this is typically two-thirds of average weekly wages.
  • Disability benefits — Compensation for temporary or permanent disabilities, whether partial or total.
  • Death benefits — Funeral expenses and financial support for dependents if an employee dies from a work-related injury.
  • Rehabilitation — Vocational rehabilitation and retraining if an employee can't return to their previous job.

Who Needs It

In Florida: businesses with 4+ employees (all industries), construction companies with 1+ employees, and agricultural businesses with 6+ regular employees or 12+ seasonal workers. Even if you're not legally required, carrying workers' comp protects you from lawsuits by injured employees.

Florida-Specific Rules

Corporate officers and LLC members can exempt themselves from coverage but must file for exemption. Without workers' comp, you're personally liable for employee injuries, and the state can issue stop-work orders and impose penalties of $1,000/day.

Professional Liability Insurance

Also called Errors & Omissions (E&O). Protects your business when professional advice or services cause a client financial loss.

What It Covers

  • Professional errors — Mistakes, oversights, or inaccuracies in your professional work that cause a client financial harm.
  • Omissions — Failing to deliver a service, missing a deadline, or neglecting to include important information.
  • Negligent acts — Providing advice or services that fall below the accepted standard of care in your profession.
  • Misrepresentation — Claims that you misrepresented your qualifications, services, or the outcomes a client could expect.
  • Defense costs — Legal representation, court costs, and settlements — often the most expensive part of a claim.

Who Needs It

Consultants, accountants, architects, engineers, IT professionals, real estate agents, financial advisors, insurance agents, and any business that provides professional services or advice. Many client contracts require proof of professional liability coverage before work can begin.

How It Differs from General Liability

General liability covers physical harm — someone slipping, property getting damaged. Professional liability covers financial harm from your professional services — bad advice, missed deadlines, errors in deliverables. Most businesses that provide services need both.

Ocean & Inland Marine Insurance

Covers goods, equipment, and materials in transit or stored off-premises. Despite the name, you don't need a boat to need marine insurance.

What It Covers

  • Goods in transit — Products, materials, or equipment being transported by truck, rail, air, or sea. Covers theft, damage, or loss during transport.
  • Contractor's equipment — Tools, machinery, and equipment used at job sites away from your primary location.
  • Builder's risk — Buildings under construction, including materials and fixtures, until the project is complete.
  • Installation floater — Equipment and materials you're installing at a client's location until the job is accepted.
  • Electronic data processing — Computers, servers, and other electronic equipment, including data restoration costs.

Who Needs It

Contractors who haul equipment to job sites, businesses that ship goods, construction companies, technology companies with equipment at client locations, and any business with valuable property that moves between locations. In Florida's marine economy, ocean marine coverage is essential for businesses involved in shipping, fishing, or port operations.

Why Standard Property Insurance Isn't Enough

Most commercial property policies only cover property at your listed business location. Once equipment or goods leave your premises — on a truck, at a job site, in storage — they're typically not covered. Marine insurance fills that gap.

Homeowners Insurance

Protects your home, belongings, and personal liability. In Florida, proper coverage is non-negotiable — especially for hurricane and flood exposure.

What It Covers

  • Dwelling coverage — Damage to your home's structure from covered perils: fire, wind, hail, lightning, vandalism, and more.
  • Personal property — Your belongings inside the home — furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances — up to your policy limit.
  • Other structures — Detached garages, fences, sheds, and other structures on your property.
  • Liability protection — If someone is injured on your property, or you accidentally damage someone else's property.
  • Additional living expenses — Hotel, meals, and other costs if your home is uninhabitable after a covered loss.

Florida-Specific Considerations

Florida homeowners face unique risks. Hurricane deductibles are separate from your regular deductible and are typically 2-5% of your dwelling coverage. Standard policies do not cover flooding — you need a separate flood policy if you're in a flood zone (and even if you're not, it's worth considering). Sinkholes are another Florida-specific risk that may require additional coverage.

Brevard County Homes

Brevard County's coastal exposure means wind coverage is critical. Many national carriers have pulled out of Florida coastal markets, but we work with Florida-specialized carriers who understand the local risk environment and offer competitive rates for Brevard County homeowners.
